Our traditional downtown boasts a variety of businesses actively supported by the Main Street program and the Downtown Development Authority. If you're looking to start a new business, there are several prime locations from which to choose.
Blissfield in a Nutshell
Blissfield is located along highway US-223 in the southeast corner of Michigan about an hour's drive from Ann Arbor or Detroit and only 30 minutes from Toledo, Ohio.
Blissfield is known across the state and Midwest region for two unique attractions. The Hathaway House offers fine dining for elite tastes, serving over 90,000 meals per year. The Old Road railroad, the longest continuously operating dinner train in North America, offers murder mysteries and other fun events around the year.
Downtown Blissfield is home to excellent building stock featuring some exceptional traditional commercial architecture, and the downtown’s adjacent residential neighborhoods are equally endowed with architectural styles, features, and details reflecting the community’s rich heritage and evolution. Most of the downtown's traditional retail uses are situated along Lane Street from US-223 south to Union Street, with some of the more visitor-oriented retail offerings facing US-223 west of Lane Street. Beyond this “core of the core,” Blissfield’s downtown includes several businesses housed in a mix of buildings ranging from traditional two-story commercial storefronts to industrial firms.
Our downtown is home to a significant antiques cluster, along with some attention-getting gift and home interior retail businesses. These businesses, in combination with the quaint historic charm of the downtown district, provide an excellent day-trip destination for residents of the nearby urban communities of Ann Arbor, Detroit and Toledo. The Main Street area is also home to a handful of popular eateries, as well as many professional and service businesses that generate consistent traffic and serve the needs of local residents.
Traffic in the downtown district is enhanced by governmental services, museums, and a very active promotional calendar, including excursion trains, car show and cruise-in events, the River Raisin Festival, Railroad Days and various holiday- and arts-related events which serve to both celebrate Blissfield’s rich history and to inject an air of contemporary flair, fun and excitement into the downtown district.
