Join the Blissfield DDA/Main Street Program on Saturday, April 21st, for the first-ever Blissfield Railroad Day Presented by McDonald's of Lenawee County in downtown Blissfield. The event will start at 10 am and end at 5 pm.
Activities planned for the day include model train layouts set-up in businesses and homes throughout Blissfield. Among the model train layouts set-up that day will be a model train layout located at Doug Tagsold's home. Tagsold's layout is a replica of the Toledo Terminal from 1979. The layout includes all of the switching operations of all the Toledo area railroads, which include Conrail, Chessie, N & W, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Toledo, and Lake Shore. For a list of participating locations, click here.
Also planned is an opportunity for individuals to ride the rails of the Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road. The Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road, which is currently in operation today, will be hosting rides throughout Blissfield for $3. Ride tickets can be purchased at the gate the day of the event.
The Blissfield Model Railroad Club will also be open for an open house. The Blissfield Model Railroad Club's layout is HO scale and includes parts of the C & O and Clinchfield railroads in Kentucky and West Virginia from 1955 until 1975. The layout covers an amazing 2,300 square feet! Additionally, the Blissfield Model Railroad Club has also invited the Hobo Crew (former members of the Swanton Model Railroad Club) to set-up in downtown Blissfield with their mobile modular display. They will be located at 114 S. Lane St. in what is now known as the old New Beginnings building.
Make sure you stop into the Historic Depot in downtown Blissfield while you are in town as well. Operation Lifersaver will be set-up at the Historic Depot to teach event attendees on how to stay safe around railroads. A movie will be played, and demonstrations will go on throughout the day.
And to enjoy the day even more, pick up an event ticket the week of Blissfield Railroad Day at any participating business. This ticket is to be wore around your neck the day of the event and hole punched at each shop. Consider the ticket as your souvenir for coming to Blissfield Railroad Day!
Special thanks to our wonderful partner!
