the historic Village of Blissfield offers a safe, small-town, family-friendly atmosphere

to begin celebrating the holiday season.

Friday, November 14
The Community Christmas Tree Lighting marks the beginning of this festive weekend in traditional Blissfield style. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an early appearance along with Miss River Raisin Festival, on a Blissfield Fire Truck at 6:30 pm on Lane Street. Blissfield Boy and Girl Scouts will join the Claus’ and the queen as they make their way into the downtown. Following the tree lighting, everyone is invited to the Historic Depot for free hot cocoa and cookies provided by Kiwanis.

Saturday, November 15
Not only will the shops and stores be open all day with extended hours, many will offer Yuletide specireindeerals. Several “Lost Artisans” will be showcased throughout the day at participating businesses. There is also a Yuletide Craft Show at Blissfield Elementary School. Stop at the Blissfield Main Street booth to purchase your own downtown Christmas ornament.

Kids can start their day with breakfast with Old St. Nick at The Main Street Stable from 9 - 11 a.m. featuring a buffet of scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes and bacon. Adults $5. Children $3. Please call to make your reservation at (517) 486-2141.

If breakfast is too early, share your Christmas wishes with Santa and Mrs. Claus while getting your free picture taken!  Be sure to stop and visit with his reindeer at the historic Depot between 12 and 4 pm.

You can also make a free Christmas ornament while supplies last at the Bliss Liewert Center from 1-3pm.

The Old Road Railroad will have train rides available from 10 – 2 pm. Boarding takes place at the A & B Depot. Speaking of trains, the Blissfield Model Railroad Club is up and running in its new facility. The display is an operating HO scale model railroad. Their first phase of construction is complete and they will be running at least 6 trains at 6 levels around a 75 foot long central "island" Check out their new layout from 11 -4 pm.

Angie and Todd Jensen, owners of “The Burns Home” have invited the public into their exquisite 1909 home featuring a grand foyer entrance with all the old world charm woodworking throughout  the house featuring leaded glass windows decorated for the season. Hours are from 10a.m. – 5 p.m.

Relax as you clip around town at a pace from yesteryear in a horse-drawn carriage from 12 to 5pm. Loading takes place at the corner of Jefferson and Lane Streets.

Don’t forget dinner before leaving town. Blissfield boasts several great dining choices that are sure to please any picky appetites.

Sunday, November 16ballons

Sunday provides another opportunity to discover unique finds in the gift and antique stores of Blissfield and a variety of family activities from 12 – 5 pm.  “Lost Arts” artisans and Yuletide specials continue in many downtown shops.

The reindeer have left, but the “Alpacas Of Crosstrails" will be at Victorian Garden. Grab cookies and milk with Santa at Cakes ‘n Shakes. Horse drawn carriage rides continue to provide a short tour of historic Blissfield. Neil Sautter will be entertaining kids of all ages as he makes balloon animals throughout the afternoon. Be on the look out for “Elfie” as she hands out "Blissfield Bucks" to lucky visitors.

The Blissfield Model Railroad Club continues their Open House from 11 – 4 pm.
The Yuletide Cheer Grand Give-Away takes place at the Historic Depot at 4:30.
